2009 Welcome!

A New Years Day Poem...

I went for a run today.
Down by Niantic Bay.
It was cold, I must say.
Windy, too -- all day.

Nice to get out and test new running gear.
Got to get in those miles, without fear.
Beautiful ocean views despite the wind shear.
What a great way to start the new year!

Let it snow!

I've just come in from shoveling the driveway. I'd say we got a good foot of snow here. All this snow is going to make it near impossible to do a good long run on the roads this weekend...so it looks like I'll be running on the treadmill instead.

As you can see from the above photo I did get a Christmas tree this year (yes -- it is small).

Happy Holidays to all!

Rain Run

Yesterday I decided to get off the treadmill and go for a good old fashioned "road run." Seemed like it would be safer. The planned run was just a few miles around my house -- nothing particularly exciting -- except that halfway through the run it started pouring rain. I was lucky because 1) it was mild and 2) the heavy rain did not last very long. But it was great to get off the treadmill...even though I was soaked at the end.

I fell off the treadmill (almost)

Tonight I was at the gym and I am sad to report that I (nearly) fell off the treadmill! That's pretty bad. While I was doing my warm-up on the treadmill I decided to just close my eyes for a few seconds. Was I day dreaming? Was I trying to remember all the great runs I had this past summer? I don't know. But the next thing I do know is that one of my legs was on the side of the treadmill (not on the belt) and the other leg was still on the belt. This is bad. I was lucky -- I quickly lifted myself off/up using the arms on the side of the treadmill and just avoided flying off the thing. It must have been pretty funny to watch. No one around me even batted and eye in my direction -- which was fine with me because I was pretty embarrassed. Well, I've learned my lesson -- always pay attention (and keep your eyes open) when on the treadmill. No more closing my eyes and wishing it was 60 degrees and sunny outside. Next time I'll hit the track. That's all -- I gotta run.

Mystic Seaport Car Show

Adam Visits Mystic Seaport (too).

Eric and Grandpa soak in the sights

Antique cars here we come!

Alright -- I've finally made a post. Ro, you made me do it. Sadly, I've got about a dozen road race reports that I'm probably never going to post for some strange reason...

A couple of weeks ago I took my grandfather to the antique show at Mystic Seaport. We had a nice day.
Oh -- the model T

My grandfather was particularly taken with a 1929 Cadillac. See below.

We had a nice little walk around the seaport and saw some cool ships.

Well, that's all -- I gotta run. Hope that was enjoyable.
